Perfumer Notes:

The organic farm that grows and distills our Rose Oil is in Egypt. I traveled there to photograph the harvest and to meet the family that has stewarded this land for many generations.

The cool night air of the Saharan desert, combined with the moon’s gravitational pull, draws the Rose Oil up to the petal’s surface, making the ideal time for harvest around 3 a.m. The workers finish before lunch when they deliver hundreds of baskets laden with fragrant petals, ready to be weighed.

The day I was there, the farm next door was burning one of their fields. Tendrils of smoke drifted over, and a cumin-rich lunch was being prepared in the open kitchen for the harvesters. The voluptuous scent of the velvety petals, combined with heady smoke and earthy cumin was intoxicating, sexy, and totally unforgettable.

Smoked Rose is a snapshot of this moment. It abandons outdated notions of Rose as a feminine fragrance. As in a tree, the outer rung is Palo Santo, opening its robes to reveal the mysteries of the woods. Inside it is Cumin, animalic and arousing. Within these rungs wafts Smoke, the trickster, marrying scents with its etheric dance. And at the center is Rose: supple, round, an embodiment of the pulsating, sensual desert at night. Ingredients: Organic Sugarcane Alcohol, Natural Fragrance (Parfum), Purified Water (Aqua).
